Our Mission

SOWIPA’S overall mission is to “promote pro-people economic growth policies and build local demand for accountability and good governance in South Western Uganda”.

Vision: SOWIPA’s vision is  “To see the emergence of economically dynamically and politically active communities in South Western Uganda”. SOWIPA’s policy advocacy work should help address the declining education standards, depressing health care conditions and deteriorating environmental conditions in the sub-region. We help local communities to access key economic resources such as micro- credit and advisory services and monitor the growth and functioning of civil society in the focus districts of South West Uganda.

Core Values : Transparency & Accountability, Respect for Human Dignity, Integrity and Honesty, Innovation and Creativity.

About Us

South western institute for policy and advocacy - SOWIPA is a non-profit policy research and Advocacy organization registered in Uganda as a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO). SOWIPA was established in 2007 and completed registration in 2008. Operating in 10 districts of South Western Uganda, SOWIPA is the only local NGO that combines evidence based research with policy advocacy and policy monitoring to address issues of poverty, economic growth and good governance. Our theory of change is that if strong professional and evidence – based non-profit organizations are established and based in Uganda’s rural areas, this will build a powerful constituency able to demand for pro-people policy change and better governance.
